- Three 17-year-old Wilmette men became the first charged under a new ordinance banning public display of air rifles. Police arrested the three at gunpoint in West Park on June 23. Edward C. Lee, of 714 Ashland, John D. Smolen, of 501 Koerper Court and Wilton J. Pak, of 3201 Washington are to appear in court Aug. 4.
