- Realtors and builders and a few residents attacked Wilmette's proposed teardown tax ordinance last week, but only two village trustees said they were not in favor of the measure. The new code would impose a tax of $12,000 to demolish each single-family home with slightly different fees for multifamily units. Trustees plan to finish discussions and vote on the ordinance at a Sept. 26 meeting at Village Hall. Only four speakers at the hearings backed the ordinance, including Gail Schechter head of the Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern Suburbs.
