Sherman B. Orwig, 64, who grew up in Winnetka and resided in Wilmette for the past quarter century, passed away November 12 of pneumonia at the Evanston Hospital. Services were held Tuesday at Scott's Evanston chapel, followed by interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Orwig was a construction superintendent in the Chicago area for the Illinois Bell Telephone Company and last April was presented a diamond pin for his 45 years' service with the company. He was a member of the phone company's Pioneer Club, of the Masonic Lodge and the Men's Garden Club in Winnetka, and the Executives Club in Chicago. He was a tenor soloist for 17 years at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago. He and his wife, the former Jessie L. Moody of Wilmette, lived in Winnetka until 26 years ago, when they bought her girlhood home at 921 Greenwood Avenue, Wilmette, the place of their marriage. In addition to his widow, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Janet O. Drake of Colon, Mich., and Mrs. June O. Lyon of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; five grandchildren, Sherman Orwig, James Bruce, and Jessie Ingram Lyon and David Wade and Susan Nan Drake; a sister, Mrs. Emily Lyman of Evanston; and two brothers, Raymond of Evanston and Harold of Winnetka.
