- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Conservation Foundation awarded the Village of Wilmette with an Illinois Rain Garden Initiative grant. A rain garden is a depression that is planted with native vegetation, designed and built in a location that will hold stormwater runnoff or snow melt allowing the water to be absorbed slowly by the plants and the soil.
