The ways and means committee of the Woman's guild of St. Luke's church gave a bridge breakfast at noon Monday at the Mission Tea room for the benefit of the guild. Miss Catherine Bird, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. T. W. Houston, 1030 Grove street, for five months, will spend the rest of the winter in Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. The annual congregational meeting of St. Paul's English Lutheran church was held Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock in the church. A luncheon was served by the members of the council and suitable toasts were responded to by members of the congregatioan. The year's work was reviewed and reports were given by officers of the various organizations of the church. The Visitation Alumnae auxiliary gave its third annual luncheon at the Evanston Country club Wednesday. The program consisted of a vocal solo by Mrs. May Reilly of the Bush Temple conservatory. Mrs. Geo. P. Gubbins is chairman, Mrs. J. P. O'Connor president, and Mrs. R. H. McColl social chairman. Many prominent guests were present. The Luther leaguers of Chicago held their annual convention at the Wicker Park Lutheran church Monday. Brown, 1505 Oak avenue, received word from Ontario, Canada, of Mr. Fred Rockwell's mother's death on Jan. 13 of pneumonia. She died in Oak Harbor, Ohio, and was buried in Napanee, Ontario. Hoffman of Wilmette entertained a number of her friends at a dinner party at her home on Sunday. Those present were: Misses M. Martin, M. Hoffman, G. Engels, G. Laubach and Anna Hens, and Messrs. N. Wise, J. Laubach, B. J. Hens and C. Gersdorf. A musicale will be given Friday afternoon, Jan. 24, in the chapel of the Methodist Old People's Home, 1415 Foster street, for the benefit of that institution.
