Glencoe "Pigs" Under Close Watch

Police Keep Eyes on Illicit Joints - Sale of Wet Goods Has Decreased.

Evanston is not the only place infested with "blind pigs." Glencoe has its troubles in the same line, but the sale of intoxicants by these places has been materially decreased since they have been under close watch of the police. For several days, according to the police report read in the city council meeting on Tuesday night, a close inspection has been kept on the illicit distributing stations and no business has been done. "Pete's" and "Harry's" places have been searched, and a small quantity of wet goods found, but no evidence of the sale of any of it can be discovered.
According to a letter from the postmaster of Glencoe, the village can have delivery of mail by carriers, if receipts at the postoffice [sic.] keep up to the usual standard to July 1. However, the installing of a system of delivery would cause the houses to be numbered. A motion was passed in the meeting empowering President Sayles to appoint a committee [missing words] with the city engineer in [missing words] scheme for numbering the houses in the village.
Several matters of routine business were discussed and a number of bills approved and ordered paid. Trustee Edwards asked permission to have South avenue as far as Park avenue flooded for coasting. The street is not used and offers excellent facilities for this sport. The village board did not grant formal permission to close the street and use it for this purpose, but intimated that no objections would be offered if the citizens in the vicinity chose to do this. The board adjourned to meet on Feb.11 at which time the ordinance for [illegible]will be ready for adoption.
