- A new village will be established west of Evanston, according to sponsor John F. Le Bahn. A vote will be held mid-March. Le Bahn admitted that the pricipal financial backer of the village is Nick Brosius, a speakeasy operator. Le Bahn said there may be legal liquor businesses in the new town; they would purchase licenses. The licenses would fund sewer and water for the new village. Brosius has been paying $1,500 per year for protection from sheriffs and he would prefer to support the new village with these funds. Justice of the Peace, Charles Voigt, observed "Those who pay graft go free, and the others are raided." He stated that present deputy sheriff Changelon has been accused of taking protection money from a resort in Glen View.
