Miss Virginia Cushing is away for a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. R. Jensen have moved to Hubbard Woods. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. de Windt are at French Lick Springs, Ind. Dr. C. O. Schneider returned last week from a trip in the south. Mr. Grinnell Wylie of Waukesha, Wis., is visiting friends here this week. Mr. George B. Massey of Milwaukee is the guest of her sister, Mrs. [damaged] Boal. Mr. Charles [damaged] of Chicago has rented the Landon Hoyt house for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. George F. Fisher of North avenue have gone to Lake Forest for the summer. Mr. and Mrs. James A. Morley have given up their house on Pine street and have moved to Chicago. Mrs. H. N. Elmer and Miss Elmer have gone east for the summer. They are to be at Jamestown, R. I. The annual exhibit of the Congregational Sunday schoo. will be given tomorrow and Saturday afternoons. There will be a meeting of the Friendly club this evening in the library of the Congregational church. Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Allen and children are in Winnetka for the summer having moved into their home on Sheridan road Monday. Mr. and Mrs. J. V. May former residents of Winnketka, have returned and are residing on Pine street. Mrs. Wallace Carter, Mrs. May's mother, is staying with them. Rev. H. L. Burison, secretary of the board of missions of the Episcopal church, was the special preacher at Christ church Sunday. Rev. Burlson is well known as a brilliant speaker. A lecture was given Tuesday under the auspices of the Winnetka lodge of the Royal Neighbors of America. Dr. Goodwin of Chicago spoke to the mothers and daughters of the organization. Mr. Willoughby Walling of Hubbard Woods has rented his house for a period of ten months. The Walling family will spend the summer in th eastern mountains and the winter in the south. A large crowd of people listened to the splendid review of the activities of Community house given by Rev. J. W. F. Davies Wednesday evening in the gymnasium. The lecture was illustrated with stereopticon views. Dr. and Mrs. Casey Wood have returned to Winnetka and have opened their summer home in Maple avenue. Miss Marjorie Fyfe, a Bryn Mawr sophomore and niece of Dr. and Mrs. Wood, will soon join them in their summer home. Mr. and Mrs. N. Landon Hoyt and children left Friday for a short trip through the east, where they will be joined by Miss Sarah Hoyt, a student and Dana hall. They are to sail this week from New York for Europe. The Winnetka ball team went to North Chicago last Sunday to meet the strong men of that town, and were beaten, 6 to 4. The Winnetka team is made up of young fellows and the North Chicago team is a man's team. It was only through the work of a professional battery that our boys were defeated. The following Winnetka people were received into membership inthe Congregatioanl church last Sunday: Mr. and Mrs. James Clipper, Mr. and Mrs. Robrt P. Crane, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Mellvaine, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll D. Murphy, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Scott, Mrs. Thomas Scott, Mrs. Robert Stevenson, Jr., Miss Cora B. Lamb, Mr. William H. Gould, Harry Anderson, Emily Ingersoll Case, Werner and Albrecht Ebner, Alice Rummier, Harold Voltz, Frances Louise von Hofsten. Mr. Rhodes,who has been principal of the Nathaniel Hawthoren school at Oak Park, Ill., for the past nine years, has been chosen by the Winnetka school board to be superintendent of the village schools, to succeed Miss Mary Gillespie, who resigned some time ago. Mr. Rhoes was selected from a large list of applicants, and the board believes that he is the right man for the position. He, with his wife and mother, expect to move to Winnetka in the late summer.
