I ". " ·:,9rm: Threshold Players Plan Tea Marking 40th Year Threshold Players will celebrate their 40th anniversary at a tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Winnetka home of Mrs. John W. Straub, 771 Sheridan Rd. Among those honored are oldtime members and patrons and sponsors of the group's 100th production, "The Beauty Part," to be presented Nov. 10 through 12. North Shore businesses who are sponsors are O. W. Zengeler Co., Henry C. Wienecke Hardware, and Barnitz Studios. Patrons include Seymour Graham, Skokie Electric, Hlavacek's Flowers, The Fell Co., Landi Paint Co., Bus Goodman, Inc., and Rehm's-Hillman Drugs. Among the old-time members who have been invited are Mrs. Theron Mandeville Woolson, 595 Cedar St., Winnetka, who was president of the young women's auxiliary of the Glencoe Union Church when the group decided to produce plays 40 years ago. Also invited is Mrs. W. Albert Kemp, 190 Glencoe Rd., Glencoe, whose late husband was the Players' first president. The Players rehearsed their first shows in the Kemp home, later moving to the barn which used to stand behind Glencoe's library. In 1927, the Players were chosen to open the new community auditorium in Glencoe's Central School. Now named the Misner Auditorium, it still is the location for Threshold plays. Current board members are Mrs. Barry McNulty, 525 Monroe St., Glencoe, president; Mrs. Straub, vice president; and Mrs. Frederic Curry of Evanston, secretary and treasurer. Others are Gustav Morner, 419 Greenleaf Av.; Ray Mulderick, 264 Mary St.; Ralph Beebe, 269 Woodlawn Av.; and Mrs. John M. NcNally, 807 Greenwood Av., all of Glencoe; Larry Olson, 1539 Sunset Ridge Rd., Glenview; Mrs. Edward Alschuler, 800 Lincoln Av., Winnetka; Mrs. B. J. Silverstone, Deerfield; and Homer Rosenberg, Highland Park. Mrs. Mary Serene Saxby, 559 Longwood Av., Glencoe, is chairman of the tea invitations committee. MR. HOLIDAY Says... National College To Give Musical National College of Education will present "The Fantasticks" at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in Arnold Auditorium of Harrison Hall, 2840 Sheridan Rd., Evanston-Wilmette. The musical, featuring five members of the New York cast, is sponsored by the student College Council. SEMINAR SET A seminar on J. R. R. Tolkien's trilogy, "The Fellowship of the Ring," will be held Oct. 28-29 at Mankato State College in Minnesota, according to Mrs. Mildred Ravaro, 1002 Greenleaf Av., Wilmette. (Bud Daley Photo) EXECUTIVE CARS from Shore High School Students, Lyric Singers to Stage Opera Seven hundred students from Evanston Township and New Trier high schools will participate in an abridged concert performance of Georges Bizet's "Carmen" at 4 p.m. next Thursday in the Evanston High School auditorium. The students have been rehearsing the chorus parts in their music classes. Four singers from the Lyric Opera roster will handle the principal roles for the performance. The "Opera Sing" is being presented under the auspices of both high schools and Lyric Opera's committee on education. Richard B. Rosewall, E.T.H.S. music department chairman, Dr. William J Peterman, director of New Trier's performing arts division, and Mrs. William H. Mitchell of Lake Forest, education chairman for Lyric, are co-operating on the project. A similar program was presented in Orchestra Hall in May, 1965. Emile H. Serposs of Glenview, director of music for the Chicago Board of Education, will direct the performance. The principal roles will be sung by mezzo-soprano Sheila Nadler as Carmen, soprano Dolores White as Micaela, tenor Richard Carl Knoll as Don Jose, and baritone Howard Nelson as Escamillo. Music commentator Jay Andres will be the narrator and Chicago pianist Alice Martz will provide the accompaniment. The opera will be presented in English, using the Boris Goldovsky translation and adaptation. Tickets can be obtained through the music departments of both schools or from Mrs. Edgar C.
