Construction of the new Ridge school was authorized at a special election in September, 1922, and the present or first unit represents an expenditure of about $150,000. Other units are to be erected later as the need becomes apparent, according to the plans of the Board of Education. · Larl'e Auliitorium The first unit com.prises a central two-storv ten-room building and the combined gymnasium and auditorium and power plant and domestic science rooms, constituting the principal part of the 1eft wing which is planned for immediate use. T,he building is of brick construction. The Ridge school and the community playground (adjoining on the west) setting was designed by the American Park Builders and was donated to the community by Myron H. West, a well known city planner and resident of Wilmette, who had a principal part in its execution. The boundaries of the t wo adjoining properties are 17th street on the east, Ridge avenue on the wes t. th e alley south of Lake avenue on the north and the alley north of Washington avenue on the south. The plan includes the develo.pment of the western section by the village board as a municipal playground, with the cooperation of the Board of Education thr~ugh permitting the school grounds to be u~cd for joint recreational purposes. The grounds are managed by joint trustees appointed by the Village board and the Board of Education.
