WILMETTE LIFE, FRIDAY, MAY- 9; 1924 .,_..-;;;.;;...;;..iiiiiiiil....;;._ _ ___,- ~ - eatboliQ Join -- . In Hoaon to Cardinal B, SCOUT RUFUS We Girl Scouts surely had a great day last Friday. Fifty-one of us attended the Chicago and Cook County Girl Scout rally at the First Regiment armory. As we flad the "L" car to ourselves practically all the way there we practiced our songs and cheers for the rally and gave yells {or our officers, Captains Pease and Roe and LieutetU.nts Nystrom anp Christiansen. ·, We felt awfully big marching down Michigan a venue with our color guard leadin g the way, but once we got inside the armory with all the hundred s of other scouts we didn't {tel so ·big, although we were rather doubtful as to whether we could fit into the small space alloted to us. It was a wonderful rally. Julliette Low, our founder, gave us our talk, and our president, Mrs. Herbert Hoover, was there with loads of the other people from headquarters in New York that we've always heard so much about and never really had a chance to see before. Special badges were a warded to several of the scouts by Mrs. Hoover and we were very proud that out of the ten or eleven troops represented, Troop One, Wilmette, was the only troop who had two girls prepared to receive the Community Service badge. And we were prouder still when Marion McKinnon and Althea Northam had the badges pinned on them and were congratulated by Mrs. Hoover. It means something to win that badge. It means 150 hours of unselfish service to the community. After the rally was over and we had greeted our camp friends, we returned to the Methodist church where the Girls' Work committee, under the leadership of Mrs. Gilbert Stansetl, bad a hot supper and a May frolic waiting for us. We crowned the May Queen, danced the May Pole Dance and sang spring songs. And will vou believe it, after all that, the officers and patrol leaders met on the beach the next morning at 7 :30 for breakfast? The rain tried to m ix in with our scrambled eggs and bacon, hut Anna Margaret had lived up to the scout motto, "Be Prepared," and brought an umbrella which kept the rain off the fire and the cooks. It was great fun and we're going to have another one soon and it will he for all scouts and we'll use our weather wisdom, .a.nd pick out a perfect moTning. Gee I ,but it's great to be a Girl Scout.
