WILM AU TOMOBILE SECTf(!JNJ Finds Lincoln Highway in Excellent Condition The national headquarters of the Lincoln highway association re.ports that G. S. Hoag, secretary of the organization, has completed the first leg of his transcontinental run, reaching Clinton, Iowa, on the Mississippi river, iast week. _Hoag left New York City, June 16, in the association's official Packard straight eight, pulling out from Times Square in company with the ten millionth Ford, which is also making a transcontinental run over the Lincoln highway. He traversed the eastern third of thr Lincoln highway slowly, holding meetings at many important points, conferring with Lincoln highway consuls and carefully checking up the road conditions. His report to the headquarters states that the road from New York to Chicago and the Mississippi river is more than 90% in perfect condition, there being only four detours in that thousand miles, three of these being in excellent condition. Including the detours, not one foot of dirt road is traversed by the Lincoln highwav tourists of this season between New York City and Clinton, Iowa-all concrete, brick, macadam or gravel. But . since March 1, tracts for many mJ!es of both pavand g~ading have been let and iderable work has been accomplished despite a wet spring, which has not been conducive to road building. If the plans of the state are carried out another thousand miles of hard roads will have been added to the state system this year, so that by the time winter sets in approximately 4400 miles of Illinois roads will be paved. As now laid out the mileage on the variou s state highways is as follows: Route Mileage Route Mileage I 400.6 7 150.2 2 473.7 8 217.3 J 380.8 9 . 243.5 305.2 10 167.8 4 11 157.5 5 185.8 6 151.1 12 172.1 13 171,7 30 53.8 14 74.4 31 115.9 15 115.8 32 42.3 16 154.5 33 55.2 17 119.5 34 32.5 18 125.7 35 1.0 19 78.0 36 137.7 20 30.4 / 37 40.8 21 55.4 38 32.5 wide club affiliations, a beautiful club emblem and many other things.
