Miss Matz, president of the club, opened the meeting. The education committee announces that Mrs. James Tufts will speak on January 8, her subject to be "The Junior High School as an Agency in Democracy." Before her marriage, Mrs. Tufts was head of the department of education at Bryn Mawr, and for ten years, head of the Phoebe Anna Thorne Model School. She is an interesting and fascinating speaker, and the handling of her! subject should be of great interest to the club women of Winnetka. Mrs. Porter and Mrs. Walling spoke for the Cummings-Vail bill. Mrs. Porter made a motion that the club endorse it. A vote was taken and the motion carried. Such splendid organizations as the Woman's City club and Chicago Woman's club are on record as having endorsed this bill · Miss Ruth Stone, social worker at the Western Electric plant, was the speaker of the afternoon. Miss Stone touched upon conditions in Europe that came under her observation while then last summer with the Sherwood Eddy party. She dwelt upon housin« and unemployment with its pathetic phases. Miss Stone spoke of the burden which has fallen upon Greece with its inftux of refugees, of stricken Austria, Roumtnia and Serbia, tellial« of the bravery of the women and children who are so heroically carryin« burdens much too heavy, and not lmowinf what the outcome of it all will be.
