22 WILMETTE LIFE "Jazz Opera" Replaced by Japanese P roduction Although the \V. Franke Harling opera, "A Light from St Agnes", ·was scheduled as next of the season 's ·novelties to be given production by the Chicago Civic Opera company, the "Saxaphone ] azz opera" is very likely to be sidetracted in favor of Aldo Franchetti's "Namiko ·San" in which the charming ] apanese soprano, Mme. Tamaki Miura, returns to the ranks of stellar Chicago singers. Strange as it may appear, certain similarities in requirements between "A Light From St Agnes" and '~Die Walkeure" caused rehearsals of the former to be abandoned until the Wagnerian revival is made. In the interim rehearsals of the ] apanese opera are going forward. Present schedules are promised on the assumption that the Franchetti opera will be sung on Friday, December 11 ; and the Harling work Wednesday, December 16. "Die Walkeure" will be pushed out of the way of both on Thursday night, December 3, leaving a free way for the novelities that are to be sung in English, including the two works named. Mrs. Walter F.
