The first requirement of such a service is frequ ent trains. That is exactly what our Local service provides-trains every half hour in both directions. North Shore Line Express service is a service for commuters between Waukegan, the North Shore suburbs, and Chicago. This, too, is a fre· quent service, with Express trains half hourly both ways. Express trains make fewer stops than Locals, and operate direct-without-change to the Chicago Loop. The third type of service- Limited serviceis our long-distance service between Chicago and Milwaukee. To attract and ho1d patronage, our Limited trains must operate on fast schedules with few stops. Were Limiteds to make Local stops, we would no longer have a Limited service. This situ· ation would be harmful not only to the Road, but to the thousands of travelers each week whose needs are met by this important service. If you are at a Local station and wish to board a Limited or an Express train, you need only take a Local train to the nearest Limited or Express stop. No hardship is involved.
