Good class of guests. Talked with some. Say this is one of the best hotels 10 Florida. Has high reputation. See many golfers. Come from all over stare. Played 1 8 holes today. Attended Christmas celebration at church. Kiddies given presents. Dec. 26. Arose early. Went to my grove and picked grapefruit for break· fast. Mrs. Life delighted with fruit. Says the best she ever tasted. These bills and lakes are very fascinating in early morning. Believe this a good place to live. New guests arriving daily from North. Many fine people. Met an old friend from Cincinnati and one from Evanston. MQtored 10 afternoon down the Ridge. Dec. 27. C. F. and wife who came here early in month and left for East Coast returned today and say they like it here better. Will spend rest of winter he~e. Glad of it. They are fine people and make it more like home. Showed me his plans for a home in this little city. Guess we will look over some plans. Might build on our homesite in Poinsettia Hills. Mafty folks from North building here. 3· Busy sending Christmas cards. Dec. 2 Motored to Lake Wales in after noon . Wonderful country. Like it here better than other sections I have visited. , r Believe this is back ~ bone of Florida. Certainly is heart of orange and grapefruit' in - .. dustry . Good highwa ys. Beau - tiful homes everywhere. 5· Wonderful day. Bright and clear. Many people here. Big crowd for Dinner. Excellent Turkey dinner with all trimmings. Dining room filled. Everybody in high spirits. Dance in evening. Finest music I've heard for many days. Big crowd on Holly Hill Links. Played another 18 holes. Made a 96. Feeling fine and Mrs. Life in good spirits. Beats all how this Florida climate puts new energy and life in a fellow. Dec. 28. Bright and . early on the Holly Hill links. Makes a fellow feel young. Mrs. Life and C. F.'s wife enjoyed shuffleboard and croquet. The outdoors agrees with them. So · much go0d weather. Sorry for the folks up North. They don ' t know what they are missing by not coming to Florida. This climate is all it's said to be and then quite a little more. C. F. says his grove will pay him a profir this year. So will mine. Letter from J . R.
