Btlieve it must be the atmosphere and plenty of out-door life. Jan. 7. Joined shuffleboard tournament on Inn grounds. Mrs. Life also played. About twelve guests here entered. Lasted all morning. Shuffleboard is popular sport here among both ladies and gentlemen. Some play during evening by electric ·light. Tried my hand on lawn putting green. Good practice. Motored with C. F. through residential section to look at homes. His plans almost finished. Jan. 8. This is the life. Feel like a young fellow every morning. You don't know the real wonderful flavor of grapefruit until you get it here fresh from the trees. Acts as a regular tonic. My grove has good crop this year. Glad I bought it. Mrs. Life has sure got the Florida "bug" for fair, as they call it here. Says she would like a home here, especially during winter, but thinks the Holly Hill Inn cannot be beat for real hospitality and homey atmosphere. Agree with her. Jan. 9· The lure of the golf course gets me every morning. Don't feel I have lived the day right unless I have at least one round. George and C. F. are always ready, too. The more I play this course, the better I like it. They say its one of the most beautiful' in the state and as sporty as can be found. Think so, too. While I golf, Mrs. Life and George's wife shuffleboard. Jan. 1 o. Made up party for visit to Davenport poultry ranch. Wonderful sight to see several hundred pure white birds roaming the ranch. They have 1 1 o acres and a gorgeous collection of sub-tropical shrubs, palms, trees. The ornamentals were plants. beautiful. Learned they raise the Australian silk oak planted so extensively here from the seed in the nursery. Saw thousands of them. Our guide told us how everything was propagated, beginning with the seed or sprouting sulk. Saw thousands of Hibiscus just starting their beautiful career. Find this place more interesting each day. Every member of our Skokie Club would be here if they knew wh~t a wondnful place it was. Several have written they are coming. Ought to m~ke this Skokie headquarters for the winter.
