February 18, 1927 WILMETTE LIFE ·ATHLETIC CARNIVAL SCORES BIG SUCCESS Packed Gym Witnesses Variety of Events Including Boxing, Wrestling, Comedy b)· Sr('cfator The boxing and wrestling show given Friday evening at the Howard schoo1 gymnasium by the W ilmette Recreation and Playground board di· rected by D. M. Davis, for the purpose of paying for some new equipment -was voted a grand success by the 500 devotees of the manly art of self defense who attended. The show was the first of its kind . ever held in Wilmette and by the remarks heard since it is hoped by all of the spectators present that it will be repeated at frequent intervals. The first act on the bill was Matthew Drees and company, magical entertainers. Mr. Drees proved himself not only an able magician but a clever comedian, as well. Besides his company he was assisted by several spectators. His rhief helper was Irvin Brammer, who would just get to his seat when "Come here, Irvin." would snap then found a "push box."
