WILMETTE · LIFE April 15, 1927 Neighbors.--. THE PEOPLE'S PARTY --Doesn't want Flats. - Believes.in efficient, economical business management. - Wants the new territory on the west developed and given the same kind of administration as the rest of the Village. --Wishes to conserve the water supply and maintain adequate service -Will expedite the repairs of worn-out streets. -Will treat Public Utilities fairly and firmly. ~' PLATFORM of the People's Part)' FLATS \\'e arc in fa,·or of keeping· the \'illag~ of \Yilmdtc a co~n.munity of homes ~and to that end favor the enforcement ot the letter and ~pmt of the present huilding anci zoning ordinances. In the negotiations f<?r the ne~ .franc_luse w.e fa~o.r the sccun!tgof the lowest po~sible rates for gas at~d electnci~y without m~patrmg the qualtty of the same or the service in connectiOn therewith. The Chtcago, North Shore ~ Milwaukee . railroad has been OJ?eratinq- .its trains through \~ilmette without a franchise for several years. Tins condttton should be remedted at once, the Village being entitled to the protection of a fr~nchise, and the co'?lpany required to pay the Village rcasoi1able compensatton for the use of tts streets in the interim . Grade Separation We favor the co-operation of this Village with other Villages along the Chicago k North \Vest~rn railway in the pres~nt negotiations with that line for the elevation of thetr tracks through the Vtllage. Streeta We favor the reconstruction of certain of our streets and the paving oi others as rapidly' as the interests of abutting property owners require. Garbal'· Diapoaal We favor the securing o.f a suitable site and the erection of a garbl~:e disposal plant and suggest in the interests of economy the idea of a ytant in common with one or two of our adjacent Villages. Playtround aad Recreation Board · We favor the continuation of the Playground and Recreation program in effect for several years past. We favor the acquisition and development of playgrounds for the children to the extent of the funds available for that purpose and the extension of the Recreation program in k~eping with public demands and interest displayed. WILMETTE LADIES: You have a vote next Tuesday. Please exercise your eight and go to the polls. Wilmette needs Earl Orner and a Board that will support him. Wi1111ette Plan Commiaaion-Recional Planaint Aaaodation \Ve favor the further co-operation of the Village Administration in the plans of the two bodies mentioned except insofar as any immediate \yo./, . development along these lines shall come without the immediate and prolJtt development of newly annexed territory and in the placing of additional tax burdens upon those affected. It is understood, however, that in the clc\·elopment of this new territory that the Village Administration will bear in mind the recommendation and plans of both these commissions made thus far, more particularly the early completion of the Main street project. Administration FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE Phone Wilmette 39503951-3952 and ask for .1 motor to conve.y you to the polls. It will be a plea~ure to serve .you. vVc do not favor the carrying- out ni ~uggestions for the creation of another Village office, that of Village 11anager, with the Yiew of employing a technically trained manager (presumably a non-resident) to superintend or supersede the heads of the present departmcnb of the Village government. We believe that this procedure materially incn·ases the cost of Village administrati\'L· exptnse \\·ithout corresponding benefit. \Ve further believe that our present form of management is in C\'Cry way an cfficirnt and economical type oi \.illagc government. Economy The present plan of Village development and reconstruction will, of necessity, place a burden of special assessment and taxation on the property owner and, in view of this condition, we feel that the expenses necessary in the conduct of the Village administration should be kept at a minimu-m in all departments so far as is compatible with efficient administration. Futher, that ~11 plans and ideas without the meaning of this immediate development and tmprovement and the taxation necessary in connection therewith be con· sidered only at such a time as this program is well completed. This in order t~ make all additional taxation purely by reason of this d~velopmcnt and 1 dtrect benefit to those assuming the same.
