14 WILMETTE LIFE April Zl, 1927 Why . we sell the Christian Science · Churches "Doctrine of Atonement" was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Sunday, April 17. The Golden Text was from II Co:. 5 :18, "All things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation." Among the citations which comprised the Lesson-Sermon was the following from the Bible: "\.Vho shall ascend · into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? He that hath clean hands and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor · sworn cleceitfu1ly. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteou sness from the G~)(l of his salvation" (Psalms 24 :3-5). The Lesson-Sermon also . included the following passages from the Chri:;tian .Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "One's aim. a point beyond faith. should be 1o finrl the footsteps of Truth. the way to health and holiness. Vve should strive to reach the Horeh height where God is revealed; and the cornerstone of aiJ spiritual building is purity." (p. 241). Wilmette, was the fortunate young woman to be selected by the judges as the "Legion Peach." or most beautiful g-irl present, at the "Legion Frolic," held Monday evening ar the Winnetka Woman's club. under the auspices of the Winnetka Legion Post. There were about 230 legionnaires and their friends present. and all were ag-reed that it was a most enjoyable affair. The orchestra, with vVallv Dehmlow and Ray Loco doing their "stuff" on the baby grands! went over big. The dance contest pro\'ed a very interesting feature. with keen rivalry among the contenders. Paul Runnfeldt. of 1037 Spruce street, Winnetka. and ~~iss Lillian Beaver, of Chicago, were the choice of the judges as the best dancing couple, with Russell Bartz and Mrs. Bartz, of 437 Chestnut street. \Vinnetka, a close second. Commander Frank \V. Blatchford. in behalf of Winnetka Post Number 10, presented the winner of the "Peach" and dance contest s ·w ith Yer~ beautiful prizes. George Mattconi. in charge of refre shments, reported a rushing· business in hot-dogs and cold drinks. Tl1c committee in charge of the affair, expects to add a substantial sum to the post's service fund as a result oi thr "Frolic," and requests that this opportunitv he taken to thank the members- and the many friends of th e legion for their co-operation.
