Members of the Wilmette Parish Methodist church Wednesday of this week voted favorably on the proposition to erect a $400,000 church edifice · on the ~site of the present structtlre at Lake and Wilmette avenues. A campaign to raise a building fund for the new church will be made this spring and is expected to reach a successful conclusion before Easter .Sunday. The proposed new church structure will be of Gothic design,_in accordanCJ with tentative plans presented by tlie architects, Granger and Bollenbacher, who, last Wednesday evening, were retained to work out the permanent plans for the edifice, Comp.rised in the new church huildin!l, which will face 250 feet on Lake avenue and 200 feet on Wilmette avenue, v·ill be two distinct units, the ont for purposes of worship, the other as a center for the educational, social and recreational features of J>arish activity. J..argeat Auditorium The "House of Worship" will contain an auditorium with a seating capacity of 800, the largest church auditorium in· Wilmette.· The auditorium will have· the clerestory effect, open chancel, and, in all, a churchly interior and exterior appearance. The unit for educational, social and recreational activities will include clubrooms for Boy Scout and Girl Scout groups, a large room for small social gatherings, special rooms for women's activities, and a large hall, to be known as the "Community House" and containing a sizeable stage, banquet facilities and ample height and floor space for all manner of gymnasium and recreational activity. . Outgrow Present Building The present membership of the Wilmette Parish Methodist church is 600 communicants. 'there is an average attendance of JOO in the Sunday school departments. . The church draws its membership from a wide area including Wilntette, Kenilworth, and a large part of Winnetka, and the new edifice is designed .to anticipate the development of the great open territory annexed to Wilmette on the west a few years a~o.
