The following oftlcers were re-elected for a period of three years: Edwin B. Knudtson, Arthur Stark, and Charles Brandt. Mr. Knudtson Is chairman of the Finance committee. Mr. Stark Is vice-president of the congregation and Charles Brandt Is the eftlclent trea~urer of the church. The Luther J~gue met at the home of the president, William Melbye, Jr. The meeting waa well attended and the business was transacted quickly. It was voted to purchase a council room table to be presented to the church. It was further decltled to have a sleigh ride party at the earliest favorable opportunIty. The balance of the evening was devoted to a social time. Mr. Kelbye's cousin, organist of Luther Memorial church, Chicago, entertained the League wtth several numbers on tile plano. Wallace Stark provided eonstderable amusement with his droll Swedish Impersonations. Among other business, It was decided to Invite Mr. Jlanlkam, profe880r In Guntur Christian college, Guntur, India, to speak at the morning service Sunday morning, January 29. Professor Manlkam· tl 'VIsiting Chtcap churches durIng January. It was decided to extend a general Invitation to all missionary societies of the village to bear Professor :Manlkam. The Lutheran church was Invited by the Indian government to establish a Christian college In the province of Rajamundry, Jndla. Professor Manlkam Is a teacher In tbls college. Cartllqe Coile1e Pw·d Carthace college, owned and operated by the Illinois Synod of the United Lutheran church In America, Is trying to meet the quota set for them by the Rockefeller Foundation. The quota Is $%00,000. If this quota Is obtained tn cash by February 1, 19%8, the Rockefeller Foundation will present Carthage college with an additional 11'15,000. In order to ·meet the conditions, the Illinois Synod has laid quotas upon all churches In the Synod. The local church has a quota of $281. A part of this has been given by Individuals. The balance must be obtained In time to send to Carthage by January 31. Gifts tor this fund should be given or sent to Herman Norberg, f18 Isabella street, Wilmette, at once. . At the annual congregational meeting the pastor was authorised to appoint a committee which shall be known as a Building Campaign committee. The following committee bas been appointed and Its members notified: SCOt Slddon Smith, chairman ; Charles Brandt. J. T. PeterROn, Joseph Johnson, llrs. Edwin B. Knudtson, )Irs. Gustav Buchhols, Mrs. A. D. Gash. This committee will select plans for the proposed new church and will present appoved plans to the congrf'gatlon. In conjunction with the connance committee, they will plan to finance the church's share of the expense. Beginning Wedneaday evening, January 11, there will be . a Midweek service at 'l :30 p. m. each· Wednesday In the chapel, until Holy week. The theme of these services Is "We Would See Jesus." The ftrst of theae services. which was held this week dealt with "JesuR. the Boy." On January 18, the subJect will be, "Jesus, the Working Man."
