Mr. Gebert became a second lieutenant in the ·Philippines in 1899 and th~re saw the action in which he won has valor award. . The citation for gallantry (sdver star) in action reads : "Albert E. Gebert, formerly second lieutenant, then battalion sergeant major 33rd Infantry, United States Volunteers. For gallantry in action in the pursuit of superior forces of the enemy under the Insurgent <?~ne!at Tinio in northern Luzon, Phthppme Islands, December 4-18, 1_899, through a most dangerous and difficult country through hardships and exposure, the'reby forcing the epemy to liberate 22 American prisoners December 18, 1899."
