Pahlic Utilitia The franthise of the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois will expire in 1928. In the negotiations for the new franchise we favor the securing of the lowest possible rates for gas and electricity without impairing the quality of the same or the servic.e in connection therewith. The Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad has been operating its trains through Wilmette without franchise for several years. This condition should be remedied at once, the Village being entitled to the protection of a franchise, and the company required to pay the Village reasonab'e compensation for the use of its streets in the interim. After being loca.~ed at 1185-1187 Wilmette Ave. for five years it was found that the progress and increase in business has been so great that their present location did not provide facilities for conducting a store of this size in the manner which it should be conducted. 'fhe new store will he located at 1119-1121 Central Ave. The building will cover an area of 50 by 100 feet, or 5000 square feet. T·he store itself will be 31 by 100 feet, and a store that will be rented for commercial purposes will be 16 by 60 feet. T.he rear 40 feet will be used by the WoUf-Griffis Store as office and checking room. There will be eight apartments of the kitchenette type. The building is entirely fire-proof, and constructed with strict attention to . minor details that help to make the perfect buildina-. The greatest advantage the new building wiD have over the old store is the aquisition of a basement. and shop. The old buildina- did not take care of either of these two necessities. The shop will be connected to the new store, while the part of the basement wiD be used as a display room for the lawn swings and furniture. It is understood, however, that in the development of this new territory that the Village Administration will bear in mind the recommendation and plans of both these commissions made thus far, more particularly the early completion of the Main Street project. We believe that this procedure materially increases the cost of Village administrative expense without corresponding benefit. Further, that all plans and ideas without the meaning of this immediate development and improvement and the taxation necessary in connection therewith be considered only at such a time as this program is well completed. This in order to make all additional taxation purely by reason of this development and a direct benefit to those assuming the same. · Funeral Rites Held for Mn. Julia Tauuia, 51 Mrs. Julia Taussig, wife of Maurice Taussig of 1000 Chestnut avenue, Wilmette, passed away last Saturday. Services were held from the residence : on Tuesday afternoon with burial at : Mouat Isaiah cemetery.
