Kinney director of Adventure l'Siand canip, from Fairhope, Ala., last week, plans are under way by the boys of the camp for their ~nual reunion, to be held in the Winnetb Community House, Saturday afternoon and evening, April 14. While in the South the past two winters Mr. Kinney spent much of his time in small boat cruising in the Gulf of Mexico, and Florida and Alabama waters, a part of the time with thirteen boys, in boats which they hatl built under his direction. As a result of his experiences cruising with boys, .Mr. Kinney has worked out plans for ·a very lightweight boat similar to the Eskimo kayak, very safe for boys, and simple enough in construction for . the average boy of twelve to build. One of these boats will be on display at the reunion. as an example of the type of boat which each boy may build for himself at camp this summer. For cruising with boys the craft has proven almost ideal, being very easy to paddle. very stable, and so light in weight that it may easily be carried upon the beach at any place or any time the fleet wishes to rest or make a camp. For young boys the kayak type of craft. as modified by Mr. Kinne,·. has every advantage of the open canoe. plus a degree of safety impos·~ihle to the canoe. it is expl~ined.
