Ner~J TNr .Truk Sqwul Wltu Over Elgin, W aaketan The New Trier tracksters won a hard-fought triangular meet from Elgin and Waukegan, at the latter's field, last Saturday. New Trier scored 55 p9ints to Elgin's 52 and Waukegan trailed with 19 points. New Trier's Juniors also won in their division, beating Waukegan 49 to 37. Elgin didn't enter a Junior team. Most of the races were run in rather poor ~ime as the runners had to fight a raw North wind which blew down the straightaway. This was the first meet of the ()Utdoor season. New Trier ~bowed up best in the mile, winning all three places. Ted Buriess, who usually runs the half, showed his versatility by hitting the tape far ahead of the rest. Hilton came in next with F errman right on his _ heels. The remaining milers were nearly SO yards uehind. The half-mile relay was the deciding event and consequently the most exciting. T-he Green and Gray was only one point ahead before the relay. Guy, who started for New Trier, received so much elbowing that Elgin was ahead when he passed the baton to Hoffman. Hoffman lit out like a scared jackrabbit though and was able to pass Marty Cassell a nice lead. Marty passed a bigger lead to Tom Brown. Then New Trierites got ~n awful scare for Elgin's anchor inan began to overhaul Brown like a motorcycle cop until he got within two paces of him. That was as near as he could get though. and New Trier won the relay and the meet. Austin of Elgin won the 100 yard dash. Levandusky, Waukegan's stellar dashman, tied for second place with Guy, New Trier's best sprinter. The same men won the places in the 220 yard dash only in different order. Levandusky beat Austin out of fir~t place and Guy came in third. Hoffman stepped out way ahead of the rest in the quarter mile but he dropped to the end in the last 50 yards and Marty Cassell breezed in first as he usually does. McCarthy and Born, both from Elgin, came in next. Hubert won the high hurdles for Elgin, Gordon of the home te~m came in second and Leach got th1rd place for New Trier. · Gordon won the low hurdles ami Bartholomew brought the Green and Gray in second. '"Bart" also got third in both the high and broad jump. . LAST ·WE! After May 1st, we will move ·to oar new store, 806-810 Grove Street.
