Bickham Goes to Big '~Y" Conference Open Eighth Year Student religious leaders from more than one hundred cqlleges and uni-: versities in the Middle West are' assembled for a nine-day conference at the Y. M. C. A. grounds, Lake Geneva, Wis, which opened June 12. The conference includes such well-known speakers and workers among students as Dr. Charles W. Gilkey of Chicago, Dr. Sherwood Eddy of New York, Dr. Bruce Curry of Oberlin college, Dr. Jerome Davis of Yale university, and Dr. Martin H. Bickham of .Wilmette. According to announcements the conference aims to give students who are working at various activities on the different campuses an opportunity to examine, evaluate and re-shape these activities from the point of view of what is most meaningful, creative and Christian. Dr. .Bickham left Monday to head a section of the conference which deals directly with the search for better ways of meeting student life-situations. For the past year and a half Dr. Bickham has been studying student life intimately. Mrs. Edwina Martine W eckler is re turning to Wilmette next fall to c~m mence her eighth season of dancmginstruction for children. Mrs. Weckler taught for two ·s easons at the Ouil mette Country club and then discon tinued her classes to accept the very attractive offer of the Parent-Teacher association, for which she taught for five years. She will reopen he.r own classes in October at the Wtlmette Woman's club. They will be held Thursdays. Mrs. Weckler is opening cla sses in Glencoe under the auspices of the Glencoe Parent-Teacher association in October. She teaches in Joliet, Evan ston, and the Franci s Parker school, Chicago. Her classes at the Edgewater Beach hotel are conducted under the name of "The Martine School of Dancing," a ., Mrs. Weckler is most anxious to keep the name Martine alive, as it is, in Chicago, synonymous with dancing and has been so for the past s~venty-four years, ever since established by Mrs. Weckler'·s father, Prof. ]. Edwin Mar tine.
