Mrs. Van Schaack, Patroness of Arts, Taken by Death Mrs Beatrice Harding Van Schaack, Cornelius P. Van Schaack of the wholesale drug concern of Peter Van Schaack & Sons, died Tuesday, June 26, at her home, 61~ Linden avenue, Wilmette, after an 1llness of several weeks. She was fifty-four years old. Surviving her are her husband and two sons Harding, who attends Cornell uni~ersity, and Cornelius Jr.; a student at the University of Illinois. Attorney Victor Harding, of 789 Burr avenue, Winnetka, and George F. Harding treasurer of Cook county, are her' brothers. Two sisters also survive her. The one, Mrs. Bruce Palmer, live s in Washington, D. C., and the other is Mrs. Adelaide Harding Vincent, of Chicago. Funeral services were held at the residence at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning, and burial was at Monmouth, Ill. Henry Van Schaack, of Denver, Colo .. a nephew of Mrs. Schaack, came to \\'ilmette for her funeral. Mrs. Van Schaack 'vas the daughter of George F. Harding, well known Chicago capitalist of a generation ago. For vears she had been a patroness of music and art in Chicago. She ·.vas a member of the Fortnightly club and the Arts club there, and of the Evanston French club. She was a zealous worker and was at one time chairman of the committee in Wilmette which helped in establishing the Ravinia opera. PLAYGROUNDS BEGIN · .CONTESTS, EXHIBITS Wilmette Children to Take Part in Pet, Poster Shows, Kick Ball Games The program at the Wilmette Playgrounds next week includes a villagewide rope jumping contest, l<?c~l pet shows, village-wide poster exh1b1t, ~he first inter-playground ball and k1ck ball contests. The rope jumping wiH be held next Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Laurel School Playgrout~d, and the Poster Exhibit will be d1splay.ed the same afternoon at the RecreatiOn .office in the old Central school bmlding. The posters w~tl be plac~d on display in the mornmg an~ wtll . be allowed to remain up for mspectw_n until late Thursday afternoon or Fnday noon. Playground ball games will be played each Tuesday afternoon with the four teams alternating the place of t~e game. The girls' kick ball team \nll play at the same playgrounds as the boys' playground ball but the games will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday mornings. Vattman and the Beac~. and the Vi11age Green and Laurel w1ll be the teams meeting next week. Vattman and the Village Green are to have the home games in playgroun ball and the Vi llage Green and Laurel in kick ball. The second beach day will take place next Friday, . Here Is An Example Heavy Rains Put Bigger Job on Skeeter Battlers The North Shore Mosquito Abatement district, which, previous to th ·~ heavy rains of the past week, had completed the work · of oiling all catch basins throughout the district, is again covering the territory, the work at this time being made nece ssary by· the heavy rains. Three of the tank trucks and as many crews of men are thus engaged, while another crew is working out through the Skokie. The dy_ namiting squad of the Chicago Sanitary district, which has not been at work for a short time, expects to resume its operations soon and complete this part of the work in the near future.
