" .__ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.......~ A RESOLUTION Whereas, a petition is i·n circulation which pu~ports to req~est the Trustees of the village of Wllmett~ to ~all a Refe_rendu~ on the quest~on: Sh~ll movmg Pt.cture theaters, m the V1llage of Wt!m~tte, County. of Cook and s~ate ofS Illdnots, b~ pernut~~d td opera tvo:ere:: ~1~r! i~rnaonon~ =~ent or. d ff' t t PP h gamze e or o secure SU'C permission for moving picture theaters by ·certain citizens and business interests in the Village of Wilmette, and Whereas, the historical nature of the Village of Wilmette has been preponderantly residential, rather than commercial, and Whereas, permissi~n granted to one commercial amusement institution to operate . on Sundays implies a tendency to grant like permission to other commercial amusements, and Whereas, it has not been successfully proved by authority that a moving picture theater could not operate with a reasonable profit on six days of the week, and Whereas, it is our firm conviction that the best interests of our youth are hazarded by Sunday movies; that the Churches of this Village have made. and are making ample provision for the needs of the people of this Village on Sunday, and that much of the work of the religious bodies of this Village would be defeated by Sunday movies, therefore, · Be it resolved, . that the First Congregational Church of Wilmette in a regular Quarterly meeting deplores this insistence by a few of the residents of Wilmette on permitting moving picture theaters to operate on Sundays; that it urges its members to exert every effort to defeat such a proposal, and that it go on record as being unalterably opposed to any attempt to open the Village of Wilmette to commercial amusements on Sunday, and Be it further resolved, that representatives be appointed to the Church Federation Committee to perfect ways and means of securing a large ex4 pression of sentiment against the said proposal ; that this resolution be spread upon the records of this Church; and that copies be -sent to the local papers, to .the members of the Village Board of Trustees, and to ·the President of the Wilmette Church Federation.
