This picture was directed by the same man who directed the crook picture "Underworld." "T-he Drag Net" is more of a detective tale than an "underworld" story. It has no realism, grim and gripping, such as had "Underworld," but it has more mystery" suspense, and brilliance. George Bancroft and Evelyn Brent are th~ ideal pair for Captain Nolan and "The Magpie," and as niuch may be said for William Powell as "Dapper Dan" Trent, lord of the world. "Few pictures in screen history have been better pl~yed," says one critic. "Bancroft's impersonation is a masterpiece; the dramatic contrast between Captain Nolan's desperate deeds and his leisurely, nonchalant manners is melodrama of the first order.
