Anne Kanter, lyric soprano, will be one of the soloists at the garden party and musicale the North Shore Congregation Sisterhood will give on August 15, at Bornleigh, the home of Mrs. Moses Born, 955 Sheridan road, Glencoe. Miss Kanter is an artistpupil of George H. Shapiro, operatic coach and composer of songs. Critics say that she has a crystalsoprano voice, beautifully clear trained, v.·ith a very large range. Miss Kanter has poise and self confidence and a splendid stage presence. Her voice is particularly suited' to German lieder and to the modern Russian songs. She will sing a group of original compositions by Mr. Shapiro, songs which are said to be especially interesting for· their Jewish and oriental coloring. They are modern in spirit and Miss Kanter sings them with fine understanding. The water carnival is held each year under the auspices of the park board, \Vilmette Beach authorities, and the· recreation board. A program of events for adults and children of all ages has been arranged and entries may be made with either Mrs. ]. P. Caldwell, swimming instructor at the beach, D. C. Stone, boys' swimming instructor, or at the recreation office, Tenth street and Central avenue. Registration will close August 6. Only residents of Wilmette and holders of Wilmette Beach tickets may compete in any of the events with the exception of the 220-yard swim open. to all north shore residents. The program for the day will be: 20-yard swim-Boys under 10 years. 2.0-yard swim-Girls under 10 years. 40-yard swim-Boys 11, 12, 13 years. 40-yard swim-Girls 11, 12, 13 year~. 40-yard swim-Boys 14, 15, 16 years. 40-yard swim-Girls 14, 15, 16 years. 100-yard breast stroke-Open to boys and girls under 17 years of age. · 220-yarct swim-Open to north shore . residents. The feature event of the meet is the north shore championship swim which always draws a large number of entrants.
