"I assure you that I enjoyed riding ill a new Pontia~-Not a Bump in a Carload," His Maje-sty remarked, and began the story of his iidventures during tbe day.!. .. We had dinner at the Vista del Lago. It . .was very good. Then rode back to the picnic and we had the honor of handing out the prize-s to the chiJdr.en who had won them in the races. uour next meal, a chicken dinner, was at the Central Ca{eteria. Then we went back to the grounds again, our chauffeur driving. "I was very happy Tuesday evening when I was told that I was going to be King and J al)e Krier Queen. I owe . it all to my sister who put me in the contest. "I went home that night tired but happy and I calJed it a day," His Highness remarked at the clo3e of the interview. -Kathlyn Welter, Beach Playground we Gertrude DelightS in Playgrounds' Exhibit Saturday, August' 11, I went down to the playground exhibit, at 1122 Central avenue. There were many things from each playground. Beach won the silver cup in the children's parade on Wilmette Day last year and the large silver loving cup has been placed in the window for display. The cup goes to Vattman playground this year. There were many posters from our park and from the other ones. Some of the pretty jars and vases were there, too. Some dolls from Laurel were very pretty. Else vonReinsperger from Laurel made a doll that looked like a policeman. I had a straw doll but that didn't loQk half as prett~ as some of the others. There were many basket~ there also. Several paper Chinamen were . hanging on th.e wall. There were quite a few scrap books there too. Billy Fanckboner, three-year-old son of our instructor, had one there and it was very cute. It was a peanut doll. There were pot-holders there. Some of the soap-carving was yery, very pretty. There were pictures pasted on cardbqard and the . cardboard · was painted to look like a home. Everything wa·s lovely. -Gertrude Goelz, Village Green The spacious smile depicted her, ewith belongs to none other \han Walter Haas, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. 0. Haas, 621 Park avenue, who cavorts· at the Vattman park playground. The shining countenance is attributable to the fact that Walter is the champion sand-modeler (senior division) of the village. Before him we note an artistic creation entitled "In a Hurry." Looks like a city-bound Wilmette commuter-umbrella and everything-hustling for the 7:42. Thursday, August 9, ~ wen! to s.ee if I could get an interview with Ma·ss Jane Krier, the winne~ of ~he Popularity contest. The mtervaew was granttd. It took place at the Hanna shop where Miss Krier is employed. Miss Krier believes that she had the best and most exciting time of her life. Everything during the whole Wilmette Day, she said, was one big thrill. But when asked if she wQuld enter the contest again she exclaimed: "Oh no I Once is enough." She stated that she was kept going every minute. She said · she enjoyed the banquet given in her hono_r the best of all. Next to that she enjoyed awarding prizes. Miss Krier said that she was very much interested in the JuNIOR LrF£. On explanation of the way JuNIOR LrF£ is carried on, she asked if I thought I would be elected to fill Bob Hess' place as Editor-in-Chief. I replied that I did not know but hoped so. ! At this moment she exclaimed : "Oh, I forgot to tell you about the beautiful clothes that were supplied f01:. me. They were simply gorgeous. Miss Krier went home rather tired but h~ppy after !_leing paid all the hig~ honors that could possibly be crowded into one Wilmette Day. At this point Mr. Stone came around to call for me. So ended a plea·sant interview. . -Chester Hanson Flower Making Feature Juniper Knoll Is at Laurel Playground Extolled as Fine The children at Laurel playground Camping Grounds take a great interest in flower making. The flowers are made of crepe paper of many different colors. Both the small and the large boys and girls make the flowers. There are many different assortments of flowers. There are daisies, roses, tulips, poppies and jonquils. Anyone who goes to the exhibit will see the flowers and can get their own opinion of them. I .think that most of them are carefully and well made. -Nancy Butler, Laurel playground Laurel Girls Present "Somebody's Princess" The Laurel playground gave a play entitled, "Somebody's Princess," at the playground at 2 o'clock Tuesday, August 14.
