The garden ts a gem. Another prize winning garden mentioned in last Sunday's list was that of E. S. Youngberg, 428 Ninth street. A year ago we were all wearing a path to the garden of Mrs. Charles N. Hurlbut, 715. Greenleaf avenue, to see the first prize summer garden of 1927 in our district and to the · garden of Mrs. ]. E. Worthen, 314 Greenleaf avenue, which ranked fourth. Tbis year, the first prize winners of 1927 were not eligible to compete, but all others were. Don't forget-Part Three, the Farm and Garden page, early Sunday morning, or late Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. J. Fred Schumacher, 1000 Forest avenue. left last Tuesday morning to motor to La Crosse county, Wis. They will visit at the home of Mrs. Schumacher's brother, F. W. Storandt of West Salem. and will also stop in Bangor to be with Mr . .Schumacher's relative s. . W. D. Collyer of 825 Forest avenue, who has been in St. Francis hospital for some time, is improving in health. A~gu~t ·31. 1928. Garden Talks Christian Science Churches "Christ Jesus" was the subject of ~he lesson-sermon in all Church of Chnst, Scientist, Sunday, August 26. The golden Text was from John 1 :14: "The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." Among the citations which comprised the lesson-sermon was the fol lowing from the Bible: " But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah. though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall · he co.me forth unto me that is to be ruler 111 Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting" (Micah 5 :2). The lesson-sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "The advent of Jesus of Nazareth marked the first century of the Christian era. but the Christ is with out beginning of years or end of days " ( p. 333).
