(Continued from page 1) and be instantly available for fire protection or other heavy service. The village of Wilmette will continue to purchase its water from Evanston, but in greater supply than heretofore. The underlying reasons for the necessity of more water and greater pressure for Wilmette provide a new chapter in the story of a rapidly growing village. The annexation of the western territory brought the matter of more water to a focal point and this meant prompt action by the trustees. There were two possible solutions of the problem that confronted the trustees. One was to put in larger mains to serve the new western section; the other was the purchas~ and erection of the new tank. New mair\s would have involved great expense in addition to the inconvenience of having the streets torn up and out of service and the certain expansion of the open territory to the west would have meant perhaps even greater expense ':vithin a few years when the mains of today would be outgrown. The trustees, after much consideration of these points, decided on the tank. The tank wiJl greatly increase the pressure in the western section of \Vilmette and at the same time maintain a uniform supply. Shortly, as a result, Wilmette will have its own waterworks system.
