November 2, 1928 WILMETTE LIFE Golden Rule Sunday to Be Observed December 2 ... The international observance of a day which has become notable all over the world-Golden Rule Sunday-is scheduled for December 2 this year. In six years the idea of practically following the precept of "doing for others" has spread until in 1927 fifty nations observ~d Golden Rule Sunday, and every state in the union e5pecially took note of it. Official endorsements came from President Coolidge, and from nearly every governor in the country. Golden Rule Sunday, as conducted under the auspices of Near East Relief for the benefit of the children under that organization's care in Bible lands, is a day when clubs, societies, Sunday school and church groups, and private families eat a simple orphanage meal and share the saving in cost-or as much more as they are able-with the children cared for by the American philanthropy, Near East Relief. There are still over 30,000 children depending upon this organization for support and a chance in life and this will probably be the last Golden Rule Sunday from which they will benefit. The citizens of this community are urged to think about and observ~ Golden Rult! Sunday as a symbol of practical christianity and helpfulness. All creeds, all races, can be partakers David Owen, director of the North of the Day-the spirit of the' Golden RUle makes no division of class or race.
