"Voters i,1 that state will ballot Nov.e mber 6 upon a proposed $10 ()()() ()()() bond issue. The funds deriv~d ~ill~ be used to defray the cost of separating approximately 400 highway and rail crossings on the state highway system. The state railroad commission will sit as an arbitrary group, with the c.arrieu on one side of the tabie and the state on the other. "The general policy in that state is for the railroad~ to pay one-half of the cost of such ~rojects and the state the other half. Should this rule be applied after the bond issue is carried, $20,000,000 should be available for the western states' war on grade crossings. . "Th~ work of separating the crossmg will thus be greatly facilitated. At the rate of progress in California in the past, it was estimated that thirty ye~rs would have been required in which to complete the work. It is likewise expected that with the approval of the proposition the counties will take similar ~ction. The total number of grade crossings in that state in 1927 was 1,740. Michigan Lights C~ssingt Celebrating its thirtieth anniversary the Goodyear Tire and Rubber company of Akron, 0., announced that-in;. · dications point t9 the breaking of ·all production and sales records this year. A feature of the celebration was a home-coming and sales c~nference. The conference was.. probably the largest ever held in· the ·rubber industry. · Members of the sales organization from all branches .of the Goodyear company in this country and many foreign countries were in attendance. · "The success of the Goodyear organization over the 30-year period of its history has been due to the introduction of many improvements including the first practical cord tire and the first pneumatic truck tire," an official stated. "Records at Akron show that, since 1915 Goodyear production has inc.re~sed six times, reaching an allttme total of 125,000,000. And indications are that this. year will see all prod.u.ction and sales records of the company broken. Mrs. W. G. Hibbard of Willow road, Winnetka, an official of the Illinois League of Women Voters, is the proud new owner of a Chyrsler 75 convertible coupe, body by Locke. Hupp Turning Out New Custom-Built "Town Sedan" ·car In response to a widely expressed desire for a custom built closed car in the Century Eight series, the Hupp Motor Car Corporation is now putting on the market a new five passenger Town Sedan in this model, which is on display at the local Hupmobile branch, according to Gould C. Davis, Winnetka dealer. The new Century Eight car was planned to come into production at the time the 1929 Century cars were introduced, it is explained by Mr. Davis. but pressure on plant facilities caused QY the record breaking sale of all Hupmobile products this . year has thus far prevented its being built in quantities. Samples are now being distributed throughout the United States, however, and as reports to the ma_ nufacturers show that it is proving hightv popular wherever it has been exhibited a large demand is anticipated hy the company and preparations are being made .for its output. The Town Sedan's Raulang body is both wider and longer than that of the Standard Eight ptodel and full advantage has been taken by Hupmobile engineers in utilizing the additional space to increase seating capacity and leg room for passengers. The new car is exceptionally attractive in appearance, making unusually effective use · of the Century design's lines, which are acce~t~ated in this car by the landau effect achieved by using fabric instead of metal in the back, the clean cut gracefulness of outline resulting from Hupmobile's unique "tailoring" of sheet metal. wider reveals around the windows and a new molding treatment, modified in shape and position. Nash Gains Strong Position in Field of 6 Cylinder Car More reports of a record sales year by Nash Motor company are announced by 0. E. Springer of Suburban Nash Sales of Winnetka. Mr. Springer has received ·information that registration figures for eighteen states show that the Nash car is setting a fast pace for six cylinder automobiles. In many instances the figures show that Nash is in third position in sales among all motor registrations, the leaders, of course, being Chevrolet and ~ord. The production figures, accordmg to }.-fr. Springer are evidence that the factory has been working at capacity for many months. The news that Nash ranks as first for cars of its own field in Cook county already has been published, but of equal interest is the information that Nash has gained a strong hold in the New York area.
