Luncheon will be served at noon. At the last meeting of this group, Miss Dorothy Stirling told of the work and purpose of the House of Happiness. The House of Happiness is a social settlement at 3052 Gratten avenue, Chicago. It was established in 1909 as the Providence Day nursery and in 1916 became the Providence Day nursery and the House of Happiness, when a new building was added to take care of the Nursery "graduates" 7 years old and older, and to provi<lt> a recreational center for the children of the neighborhood. In 1926 the Providence Day nursery went out of existence because of h d d. · · h d' · d c ange con ahons m t ~ tstnct, an the ~wo buildings since then have been · use d as a se ttl emen t h ouse, carrymg qn a t:ecreation~l and educational program for children and young children. It serves young people of eight na- actlvJtaes. The winter program provides cooking. sewing, music, social clubs, daneing, dramatics for girls, and manual training, gymnastics, basket-ball, swimming, clubs and class-work for boys. The Public library has a branch there and a nutrition clinic is carried on by the Elizabeth McCormick Memorial fund. The summer program includes clubs and classes in a summer school for severi weeks, emphasizing handwork, domestic science, and manual training of all kinds, also regular weekly picnics and excursions to places of interest and moving pictures on'ce a week. About 2,000 persons, of all ages, attend each show. Organized street play three evenings a week is an important part 0f the summer schequle. BJ'shop Charles P.
