WILMETTE LIFE November 9, 1928 Christian Science Church "Everlasting Punishment" was the subject of the lesson-sermon in 411 Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, November 4. The golden text was, uThe hope of the ·righteous shall be gladness : but the expectation of the wicked shall perish" (Proverbs 10 :28). Among the citations which comprised the lesson-sermon was the following from the ,Bible: "If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons ; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grevious : nevertheless afterward it Y.ieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:7, 11). . The lesson-sermon also ·included the following passages from · the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "Love is not hasty to deliver us from temptation, for Love means that we shall be tried and purified" (p. 22). Grid Victory, ·Parade and Awards to Grads Enliven Homecoming Dyche sta4ium, filled with its larges_ t crowd of the ye~r, 48,000 people, many of whom were alumni, offered the h.ig_h spot in the two-day Northwestern homecoming celebration with the Wildcats' 10 to 9 defeat of Minnesota last week-end. Of all the university's sons who returned for the occasion Dr. A. H. Burr of Evanston represented the oldest class. He graduated in 1877 and was presented with a cup for the distin~tion. Dr. Maxwell Murphy, '12, of King's Daughters' house, Temple, Texas, traveled the greatest distance t9 attend the celebration and received a cup · in recognitivn. An "N" blanket to the oldest "N" man present was given to H. R. Howell of Des Moines, Ia., who was graduated in 1889. The .Parade ar~anged in the returning gt:ads' honor was the most spectacular the university sororities and fraternities have offered in several years. The Sigma Chi's moving portrayal of · alumni returning to the university wo~ first cup among the fraternties while Phi Kappa Sigma got second and Acacia third. First in sorority floats went to Alpha Omicron Pi depicting "Rise Northwestern" in white statuary style, ~~cond to Kappa Alpha Theta and third to Zeta Tau Alpha. Chi Phi Psi won first among the M.cKinlock campus entries. Houses wore bunting and Wildcats to welcome their ret~uning members. Judges picked the Phi Kappa Sigma h9use as first winner; Phi Delta Thet"-, second; and Acacia, third, among the fraternities; and of the sororities, Gamma Phi Beta, first; Alpha Gamma Delta, second; and Alpha Chi Omega, third.
