Students of New Trier Hig.h school voted in favor of Herbert Hoover for president, 1,101 to 327, in a mock election held at the school on Tuesday. Of the 1,509 students who had registered and were elegible to vote, 1,428, or 94.6 per cent, cast their ballots. Those in charge of the mock election were unable to secure a sufficient number of ·sample ballots and that was given as one of the chief reasons for the failure of the 81 remaining students to vote. The Republican candidates for the most important offices were decidedly popular. Hoover·s margin over Smith was more than 3 to I, while Emmerson was a 2 to 1 favorite over Thompson for the governorship of Illinois, receiving 981 votes to Thompson's 430. The students voted for other candidates also, but only the preosidential and gubernatorial vote .was tabulated. The presence of a large number of "scratched" ballots ~ndicated that the New Trier students cast an intelligent vote, according to We~ley L. Brown, director of re'5earch at the High school. The mock election at New Trier was preceded by several weeks of campaigning by backers of both parties, and a general assf'tnbly on Monday at which Prof. A. R. Hatton, head of the political science department at Northwestern university, presented the issues of. the campaign impartially. The mock election 'w as modeled as closely as pos-sible·. after the regular national election.
