The Historical society of Kenilworth met on Monday evening of this weef ~t the Kenilworth Assembly hall for ats annual event. A turkey dinner was . served to 110 guests, Mrs. Grant Ridgway in c~ar~e and Mrs. Bentley McCloud asststmg~ at seven o'clock with after dinner speeches by Henry Taylor and Mr. Percy Eckhart. T~e soctety consists or residents of Kemlworth who have been in the village twenty years or more. It is a · most enthusiastic organization which meets once a year to relive old scenes re~all ol~ even~s, a~d to bind togethe~ fr!endsh·p.s whtch, in these busy days, m1ght easrly be broken. · Each year a unique program is given. This one was in charge of Mrs. Henry Taylor and she presented an evening of music and fun based on Dolly ~andolph's ·:~rchestra Comique." !~e tdea o~ the Orchestra Comique" ongmated wtth this Oak Park girl Dolly ~andolph, and was first pre~ s:nted m 1907 at the River Forest Tenms club. It proved such a success that . othe~ clubs ~ought the idea and she had tt copy-rrghted: In 1907 it was presented in Kenilworth at the Assembly hall under the auspices of the Harmony c~ub. and the Evanston Index of that yme (21 years ago) had this to say: Last . Saturday a l~rge crowd was present to witness the unusual success of the .. Orchestra Comique" given at Assembly hall, Kenilworth. The performance was a burlesque symphony orchestra with Miss Dolly Randolph as kappelmeister. The costumes worn by the. players. were the type generally assocrated wtth well known comedians and the instruments were distinctly original a n d homemade-household articles from wash boilers to tennis rackets being pressed into service. The effect proved to be so ridiculous that the audience was kept in an hilarious state throughout the entire evening." This gives an idea of the type and effec.t of the program on last Monday evenmg. Spicer, bassoon; Mrs. Reed Landis, oboe; Mrs. Percy Eckhart, cymbals and drum ; Mrs. George Brown, harp; Mrs. Herbert Taylor, accompanist; Mrs. Ward Starrett, librarian; Mrs. Henry Taylor, conductor. The orchestra appeared in unique costumes and presented a remarkable _ entertainment. Everybody expressed highest praise saying it was one of the best programs they had had. Special mention must _be made of the lovely singing of Kr~ball Root. His voice is such a pleasmg one and he chooses songs one ~oves to hear.
