Here is a letter which indicates the interest of the Shawnee Country club in .the activities of the board. It reads: October 16, 1928 Playground and Recreation Board, Wilmette, Illinois. Gentlemen: I have your letter of the 13th addressed to The Shawnee Country Club in regard to a donation. The club is not operating at the present time. Collecting no dues from the members until the opening of the club. Therefore, at this time r do not believe that I would wish to ask for the contribution but in place of that I am enclosing my own personal check for $15. Of this amount $5 is for my own contribution and $10 for the $hawnce Country club. I am thoroughly interested in your work and the club itself is inter<~sted. I am confident that when the clun is opened they will be glad to do their bit as a contribution to the welfare of the village in which the club is locate<l. Of course, you understand our members are drawn from Evanston, Wilmette, Kenilworth, and Winnet~a. Sincerely yours, Albert N. Page President Shawnee Country Club. There are twenty-six of these values offered--any of which is a decided bargain at Daniel M. Davis, director of recreation, is fervently hoping that there are six or seven other organizations in \Vilmette which wiU encot1ragc him with such a letter and contrihution like the above. If there i.:;. he s<:ys · that he wiU be able to p:1y ott the· deficit on the Ballowe' en programs which were held Hallowe'en night at the two school gymnasiums. The Hallowe'en program, since it is a purely entertainment program, is the only activity conducted by the Playground and. Recreation board which is not covered by the regular recreation budget. Hence, the programs cannot he conducted without outside financial assistance. To cover the expense incurred, invitational letters asking for $10 donations are sent to the civic organizations and clubs of the village. "The majority of the organizations have been most generous in sending in their contributions promptly and I feel that it must be an oversight on the part of those whose contributions have not been sent to us thus far. I feel that these programs are of great value in diminishing the amount of Yandalism perpetrated by boys of the village on Hallowe'en. This year we cared for more than 1,800 boys and gir]s under seventeen years of age between the hours of 7 to 10 o'clock and I think we can safely say that no act of vandalism was committed by any of the children attending our parties," Mr. Davis said. $15·75 Seven to twelve dollars was the price of the hats. now divided into two groups for this Thanksgiving clearance. · Authentict youthful, smart-appealing to both purse and eye, they are now selling at TO OPEN RADIO SHOP This Saturday has been set as the opening day for Evanston'·s latest radio shop, the Wilms Electric company, which is headed by H. ].
