X mas Auto Bu:ving to Grow in Volume This Dealer Says Indications are already being· obs~rv ed by automobile dealers that the pr.ac tice of giving motor cars for Christm.a s presents is likely this year to attain a larger volume than ever before, accord ing to Gould C. Davis, Winnetka Hupmobile dealer. Reports reaching automobile col!l panies have been carrying intimation:for a week or more that prospects arc: beginning to come into dealers' sale3 rooms and make inquiries about Christmas delivery of the 1r.odels they hayc been considering. "There are two angks of automobile buying for Christmas," 'said Mr. Da v i ~ . "Some people give a car as a prese.n t to the family; others give the car it sc·lf a present. "The two-car ownership practice is firmly established in thts country as i-; evidenced by the fact that practicall ~ every home no.w being built is provid ed with a two-car garage. The practi ce undoubtedly exercises a strong influ ence on Christmas automobile buyin g·. Where the wife is to have her ow n auto it is becoming very common for the husband to make the gift at Christ mas and he usually takes plenty of time to consider carefully a tran sacti on of such importance. A month or mort is none too long to make sure that o ne has all the facts about the model 011<· · i·s buying. Further, if the c. oicc is tr· be a fast selling car like the Hupmobile Century it is only ordinary prudenc e tc' allow plenty of time for delivery a nd thus avoid the distinctly unplea san1 possibility that the desired car might not be obtainable when Christm a:morning arrive'3.
