Siddall "The Jazz Siaaer" Ia Firat of "Greater Dies of Explosion Movie Month" Picture· at Comin Garage at Home munity House Joseph J. Siddall, 840 Grove street, Glencoe, died as the result ' of burns Sunday night in the garage at the rear of his home. The burns are believed to have been caused by an explosion which 't ook place while he was investigating motor trouble. A neighbor saw the flash of light and heard the explosion. Mr. Siddall was formerly a resident of Wilmette for many years and was very well known in the community. He moved to Glencoe only within the last few years. He was fifty years old and was treasurer of the C. F. Baum company, manufacturers of braids and tassels. He was a member of the Illinois Naval reserve, and had enlisted as an able-bodied seaman at the time of the Spanish-American war. He was a member of one of the 13-inch gun crews on the U. S. S. Oregon and participated in the battle of Santiago de Cuba on July 3, 1899 as well as several other engagements. .Mrs. Siddall, who survives him, is known to many north shore persons as being a leader in Arden Shore work. The funeral services were held at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home and burial took place at the North Shore cemetery. Next Tuesday, December 4, will be the opening day of "Greater Movie Uonth" at the Community House in Winnetka. Residents of the north shore will have opportunity to see and hear Al J olson, the famous stage entertainer, in "The Jazz Singer." The picture is to be shown with eomplete Phototone accompaniment. "The Jazz Singer" was J olson's first picture and it is said to have broken many records for theater attendance In it the well known entertainer plays a Jewish rabbi's son who dances and sings in cabarets, much to the dis"" pleasure of his religious father, and who later wins fame on Broadway. The second of the "Greater Movie l\fonth" pictures will be "Steamboat Bill, Jr.," to be shown next Friday night, December 7. It is a Buster Keaton comedy whose setting 13 along the Mississippi , river. Ernest Torrence as "Steamboat Bill" doe s some good acting, and Marion Byron, Mr. Keaton's little new leading lady, is cunning and has a good sense of the ridiculous . The showing will be given under the auspices of the Lake View Musical society for their scholarship fund. Coe Glade, a soprano with the Chicago Civic Opera company and Rudolph Rueter. pianist, will also take part in the concert. Tickets, which may be excha11ged on December 3 or after at Orchebtra hall for reserved seats, may be procured from Mrs. Arista B. Williams of 1366 North Deatborn Parkway, Chicago, or at the hall.
