December 14, 1928 WILMETTE LIFE Suburban District ·s hows Fine Gains in Building Field Chicago suburbs closed the eleventh month of 1928 in a blaze of glory making a 28. percent gain in Novembe; over November a year ago. The No\'ember gain this year was 44 percent ahead of the volume of the suburban area for October. These comparative figure s as c~m piled by S. W. Straus and company, are based on permits fil ed in fort y- two suburbs. Building condition s in many of the suburbs are particularly propitious. Evanston, with a November volume $3,409,750, made a gain of 291 percent against November of last year. High land Park, with a volume of $609,356. made a November gain of 302 percent. Joliet, with a November volume of $220,600, made a gain of iOS pe·r cent. Elgin, with a volume of $247,735 in November, made a. gain of 184 percent.. While the volumes were somewhat smaller in a number of suburbs several made very unusual November gains as follows: Arlington Height s 1261 percent, Batavia 2238 percent, ~iles Center 1396 percent and East Chicago, Indiana, 1003 percent. Other suburbs showing gains in November were as fo11ows: Aurora 14 percent, Berwyn 60 percent, Calumet City 151 percent, La Grange 179 percent, Baywood 11 Chicago Heights ·t9' percent, Des Plaines 152 percent, Elmhurst 23 per: cent, Harvey 13 percent, Homewood 368 percent. Kenilworth 106 percent. I.a Grange 179 percent, Maywood 11 percent, ~orth Chicago 40 percent. Oak Park 12 percent, River Forest 482 per cent, and Wheaton ,115 percent. It is significant that out of forty-two suburbs twenty-three made gains in Xovember. The suburbs and their gains as shown in November against October this year included : Arlington Heights 50 percent, Aurora 23 percent, Batavia 300 percent, Calumet City 32 percent. Des Plaines 49 percent, Elgin 47 percent, Elmhurst 82 percent, Elmwood Park 83 percent, Evanston 451 percent, Highland Park 325 percent, Homewood 478 percent, Joliet 7 percent, Lombard 14 percent, Maywood 20 percent, Mount Prospect 43 percent, Niles Center 26 Percent, North Chicago 187 percent, Oak Park 117 percent, Wheaton 150 percent anct East Chicago, Indiana 103 percent. Wilmette, Winnetka, and Glencoe showed decrease from November of a year ago.
