December 14, 1928 HEALTH SEAL CAMPAIGN NETS $611.68 TO DATE Children in All Schools C~mpete for Award to Go . to Room With Highest Sales The sale of Christmas Health Seals in Wilmette had netted a total of $671.68 up to Wednesday night of this week, according to a checkup made on the basis of incomplete reports, by Mrs. L. M. Cozzens, general chairman of the campaign here. The campaign was started Thanksgiving day and will continue until Christmas, Mrs. Cozzens announced. The reports from the public schools are practically complete, but the parochial schools will not be heard from until next · week. The assistants are: Mrs. John Hoffman and Mrs. William Flynn at St. Joseph's school, Mrs. A. L. Grinnell at the Avoca road school, Miss Engles at District 37, Mrs. E. ]. Hoffman and Mrs. F. G. Stecker at Howard school, Mrs. D. H. Maxwell at Logan, Mrs. Walter Miller at St. Francis, and Mrs. F. Z. Favor, working with Mrs. Cozzens at the Central and Laurel schools. Winners of the room prizes for the largest amount of sales in each of the public schools were announced by Mrs: Cozzens as follows: Laurel schoolMrs. Gladys Herron's second grade, with a total of $42.50; Howard school -1fiss Margaret Loftus' fourth grade, with a total of $35.95; Central school, Central building-Miss Helen Hardick's fourth grade, with a total of $67.45; Central school, Stolp building -Mrs. Agnes Jones' eighth grade; and Logan school-Miss Nellie Decker's second grade. A complete checkup on the amount collected in Mrs. Jones' and Miss Decker's rooms had not been made when the other totals were announced. Each of the winning rooms will receive a prize. Aid Health Center Arthur J. Taylor, a resident of Witmette for more than twenty years, ha; been nomina.ted to take the place of the late Leslie F. Gates on the New Trier High School Board of Education. Mr. Gates' successor will be chosen at a special election to be held tomorro\v. Mr. Taylor is a director of the Wilmette State bank and has two sons who are New Trier graduates. Teachers' Club to Hold Xmas Fete Next Monday The annual Christmas dinner of the Wilmette Teachers' club will be held Monday evening, December 17, at the Howard school at 6:30 o'clock. Mrs. Stella C. Maher is general chairman in charge of arrangements for the event. Miss Laura Flentye will be responsible for the table decorations. Members of the Wilmette Board of Education have been invited to the dinner this year, and a total of between seventy-five and eighty guests are expected. There will be a Christmas tree and a Santa Claus, and everyone will bring gifts. Mrs. Agnes Clark, eighth grade teacher at the Stolp school, will lead in the singing of Christmas carols. Classes are to be resumed on Monday, January 7. SCHOOL OPENED A formal opening of the new Joseph Sears school was held last Saturday evening. The parents were invited to inspect the school and the paintings which individual artists have loaned Elmer E. Nygaard. Money rais.ed by the sale of Christmas Seals in Wilmette will be turned over to the Chicago Tuberculosis institute, and will be used to help defray the expenses of the Grosse Point Health Center. Postpone Annual Xmas Program at New Trier The annual Christmas program of the New Trier High school choruses, glee clubs, and orchestra, qnnounced for this Sunday afternoon, December 16, ha.; been postponed indefinitely. The postponement was made necessary by the large numl~r of absences at the high school due to colds and mild attacks of influenza. Many students who were to take part in the program were not in scj10ol this week, making it impossible to hold the regular practices.
