Present c;_ristmas I Pageant Dec.· 23 A Dramatic pageant to be presented by Wilmette Baptist church and Sunday school Sunday afternoon December 23 will tell the old, old story of Christmas in· a new way. The title of the pageant is "The Coming of the King." The first part will repre·s ent thtpeople going to Bethlehem to pa~ taxes. For it was the custom that. every Hebrew be enrolled _in the cit:v of his birth, and that he should pay taxes there at regular intervals. Joseph and Mary are presented approaching Bethlehem, murmuring over the injustice and inconvenience of tht> Roman tax, and . later as obtaining lowly quarters for the night on that first Christma·s eve. The second and last part presents a ·tableau of the shepherds and wise men watching and following the Eastern star until it brings them to the newly born Jesus. They present gift.s and do humble homage to their Savior. Atl the actors will be presented in appropriate costumes. Special attention has been given to stage setting" and lighting, which means so much in the portrayal of historic events. The Junior choir, under the direction of Madame Gilderoy Scott, will sing. There will also be a male quartet. Elizabeth Babcock of Winnetka, formerly of Wilmette, who is returning from Smith college December 20. will spend the holidays . with her fathe~ at the Orrington hotel. Miss Elizabeth E. Packer, dean of girls at New Trier High s~hool, is the new president of the Illinoi5 Association of Deans of Women. She was elected to that position at the ninth annual conferecne of the organization at the Oak Park-River Forest Towuship high school Saturday. Miss Packer is acting principal at New Trier during the absence of Supt. Frederick E. Clerk.
