' ) PRODUCTION FOR 1928 .ESTABLISHES ARECORD Big Output in November Indicates New Mark Will Be Set in the Motor Industry In spite of predictions that 1928 would not establish a new production record, a big November indicates that a new mark will be set. Production of passenger cars during eleven months of this year amounted to 3,621,469, a'i against 2,840,518 in the same period of last year, and 2,946,601 for the whole of 1927, the automotive division of the Department of Commerce announced today. The output of passenger cars in :November, based on factory sales, was approximately 100 per cent larger than in the same month of last year. Truck production also was far in excess of January-November period 0f last year, the total for the eleven months of this year being 502,756, as against 454,725 for the whole of 1927. The same upward trend in p~oduc tion has occurred throughout the same months in Canadian factories, the total production of passenger cars being registered as 190,003, as against 146,182 in the whole of last year. According to Secretary of Commerce Whiting, estimated production for December doubtless will exceed the previous high record of 1926, when the output totaled 4,299,000 for passenger ~ars and trucks. The gain in total passenger car and truck production in the first eleven months of 1928 over the corresponding period of 1927 was 856,470, or 26 per cent. The passenger car output over this periqd increased 780,951, or 27 per cent. and the truck output gained 75,519, or 115 per cent. Startling gain were made in the production in the month of November over the same month a year ago. The increase in total production amounted to 122,566, or a gain of 91 per cent over November, 1927. The increase in the passenger car total was 97 per cent., the gain in number of cars being 107,-+98. The truck outp\lt increase was 15,067, or 61 per cent. Hupmobile dealer. ; Marmon Announces New "Roosevelt" to Sell Below $1,000 This story is written for the purpose of introducing a new addition to the motor industry. It is announced that the Marmon Motor Company of Indianapolis is to bring out a new car early in the spring which is to 3Cll below $1,000. The new car will be known as the Roosevelt, the name having been chosen from several thousand others because of its instant importance to the public and the American ideals for which it stands. The Roosevelt will be in addition to the present Marmon line of straight eights. lt will serve to place M~l.r mon in the field with a complete hne in all price classes, a policy which will be an innovation for the company, which heretofore has confined its activities to medium and high priced cars. Details of the Roosevelt were i10t made public although it was stated that an ext~nsive manufacturing program already is being perfected for its production on a quantity scale begin.ning in the early spring.
