January 11, 1929 WILME.TTE LIFE' 25 Glencoe Scouts Win N umeraus Awards at Big Court·of Honor· ON THE ·JOB (Outlining duties of the ' Junior Assi·3tant Scoutmaster.) The · job of the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster should include among other duties, the advancement', outdoor work, recreation, recruiting and handling of Tenderfoot Scouts. It is recommended that the Junior· Assistant Scoutma'5 ter be a rank above the Senior Patrol Leader and just below the rank of Assistant Scoutmaster, but, if there be no assistant Scoutmaster, then th() duties of thi·3 office shall be discharged by the Junior Assistant. Arguments for this : We believe this rank should be a promotion; because most juniors are older th:1n se nior patrol leaders; becau5e when we do get a good leader this promotion would be an acknowledge ment of his ability. It is recomm ended that the office of ] unior Assistant Scoutmaster be safeguarded by having a regular application of leadership to be officially approved by the Scoutmaster; the Troop Committee Chairman and Local Council headquarters. That the requiremcnt· 3 be: Age 16 or over; rank first-class or over; have been in Scouting £01; three years; and that he has served satisfactorily as Senior Patrol Leader; and that there be no more than two Junior Assistant Scoutma'5ters in a troop at any one time. T·rooo 35 Has Glorious Time on Two-day Hike The trip to the Cabin-in-the-'V oods was a very successful one for our troop. It was the best over night hike Troop 33 has had so far. We hiked to the Cabin on Friday night December 21 and came back Saturday. After 5 oclock all the Scout.s who were not helping get supper, went to chop wood and after finishing our ta-3k we all went into the cabin and consumed the hot soup that the fellows on K. P. had prepared and the sandwiches which we had brought along. After supper at the Camp fire, Mr. Reichardt, our District Commissioner, came out and presented U5 with the Troop Honor Ribbon that we had earned. He stayed long enough to lea1 us in a few peppy songs. Mr. Wichman told us a story and then we went to bed. When we got up in the morning, some of the troops were detailerl to get more wood and the rest to g-et breakfast ready. The breakfast was ·r'e at. After breakfa·.;t, we policed round the cabin and had a game of p and robbe~. Four boys started out d. · robbers and only two came in free. After all the excitement was over, . we found a place to skate-had a swell time. We had lunch, skated some more and came home after giving the camp a finat clean-up. Friday night we initiated Rod Smith, Marvin . Neihbuhr into the Order of the Ancient Star. Several boys passed their 14-mile hikin'-1' tests, for First Class, while on their trip.-Scout Fred Reichardt, Troop 33, Highland Park.
