January 18, 1929 WILMETTE LIFE 35 Legion Auxiliary Last Monday evening a goodly number of Auxiliary members of Post 46 braved icy walks and streets to attend the regular January meeting of their unit. It was the annual meeting, and much of the time was given over to hearing annual reports. No report was heard on rehabilitation activities, due to :~.bsence of the chairman, 'b ut Mrs. Stanley Peterson gave a splendid report on the child welfare committee, a branch of the service work. The outstanding work ·done by her committee is the care of a local family, adopted last April by the unit for special attention. The children have been clothed and given two quarts of milk daily, and th~ family have had generous baskets at Thanksgiving and Xmas time. $10 was given to the local dental clinic. Ten layettes have been distributed and two boxes of clothing sent to Florida, and two girls were benefited by two weeks at a summer camp. All work at the Orphan Home at Normal, Illinois, was under the control of this committee. Concise and interesting reports were also given by Mrs. Bassler, retiring ways and means chairman, Mrs. Russel Johnson, Americanization chairman, Mrs. G. A. Stone, retiring membership chairman. Mrs. Richmond, contact chairman, and Mrs. A. Rodenkirk, who had charge of the sewing. In the absence of ~f rs. Klebba, recording secretary, minutes of the meeting were recorded by Mrs. \V. E. Richmond. The printed by-l~ws, promised for the meeting by the first vice-president, Dr. Beatrice · Hawkins, were distributed and will add greatly to the members' equipment for service. Mrs. E. V. Cullison, sewing chairman for 1929, announced that the sewing meeting held recently at her home gave the unit a splendid start on the year's work. Sewing will be continued systematically through the year at the regular meetings and at special meetings to be held the first Thursday in the month at the homes of the members of her committee. The next meeting is called for February 7 at the home of Mrs. A. Froehde, 1608 Wilmette avenue. Members are asked to consider these special dates for sewing as of equal importance with the regular meeting dates. The call for victrola records for the ward at Great Lakes was repeated; gifts of jellies, new magazines (within the month), and bathrobes will also be appreciated. Anyone wishing to make such donations may have them called for by notifying Mrs. Randolph McCandlish. Plans for enlarging the unit funds by Mrs. T. L. D. Halt and her ways and means committee include two large parties to be given throughout the year. The first of these. a masquerade hall to be given at the Masonic Temple Friday evening, February 8, is now being heralded in the village by attractive posters. There will be a grand promenade at 9:30, and prizes will be offered for the loveliest and silliest costumes. Joe Schneider's orchestra will tempt the feet to rhythm. Mrs. Von der Lippen, social chairman, has offered the services of her committee to co-operate in furnishing refreshments. All in all the members are confident this will be one of the largest and most delightful events of its kind ever given in Wilmette.
