WIL·METTE LIFE February· 8, 1929 Music News and Events Begin Subscription Sales for 1929-30 Civic Opera Season With one of the most successful operatic seasons in the history of Chicago just completed, and the company embarked on its post-season tou.r, which takes it from coast to coast, the Chicago Symphony orchestra is already preparing for t.he next seas~n of opera, which opens November 4 tn the new Chicago Civic Opera House, Vvacker drive at Madison street. The ·sale of subscription tickets for the first year in the new house was opened to the public February 1. Prior to that time several thousand persons who were subscribers to the 1928-29 season had renewed their subscriptions for the coming year, and already a large number of seats has been taken. The demand for subscription tickets this year is certain to be much heavier than ever before in the history of t-he company. The renewals have been unprecedented, and public interest in the new opera house has been manifested bv the numhers of advance reservations r~ccived by mail before the public sale opened. The number of subscription tickets sold will be strictly limited in every category, in order that provision may be made for box office ·sale. For the benefit of patrons who are not familiar with the subscription plan, Opera Topics, organ of the company, explains just what constitutes a subscription ticket. During the coming year there will be thirteen Tuesday nights', thirteen Wednesday night.5, thirteen Thursday nights, and thirteen Saturday matinees at regular prices, every one of which constitutes a subscription series. Subscribers choose the series which best suits them, and become owners of the same seats for every performance of the series during the entire season. Furthermore, subscription seats are sold for the thirteen performances at the regular price of twelve seats at the box office, Subscribers thus obt'ain ·one performance free.
